Founder

Arlene Nystuen is co-founder of Genesis II for Families, Inc. and senior member of the Genesis II Board of Directors.  Arlene has also been a key player in the history of Sojourner Project, Inc. and has served her community for 40 years through various social service and political committees and board work.

Executive Committee of the Board

Lucy Swift (President) works as the Director of Partnership Development for Twin Cities Public Television (TPT.) In this position she oversees local initiatives to expand existing entrepreneurial, start up ventures and strategic partnerships for TPT. In addition to her work at TPT, Lucy has over 10 years of leadership experience in marketing and development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies and Masters in Business Administration.

Laurene (Lori) L. Engel (Vice President) is an instructor at the Minneapolis Community Technical College with more than 10 years experience as an educator. Lori was a trainer for adult volunteers and director of volunteer services at St. Paul/Minneapolis Girl Scout Council for many years. Adult education ties her closely to the mission of Genesis II.

Jordan Henkel (Secretary) works at Auriton Solutions as a Counselor and Education Specialist. Jordan comes to Genesis II through the Masters in Public Policy program at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute. Jordan spent two of her undergraduate years serving as a volunteer and AMERICORP Member at the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center in Fargo, ND. Jordan’s dedication to crisis intervention ties her closely to the mission of Genesis II.

Balal Javed (Treasurer) works as a financial analyst in the Food Service Division at General Mills. In this position, he is responsible for quarterly reviews to insure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements as well as promoting productivity and eliminating financial waste. In addition to his regular duties, Balal has also served as a grant reviewer for the General Mills Foundation. Balal holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance.
